Lucky Azad started painting as a disruptive student in high school. Once finding his love for painting, he hasn't stopped since. Soon after completing his diploma in Fine Art, Lucky went on to exhibit his first solo collection of paintings with the exhibition 'Laughing Lucifer' in Southwark's Menier Gallery. This was a project of self reflection, dark surroundings and disproportionate clown-like figures either representing man or it's more beastly side.
In 2016, after struggles against some controversy, he went on to exhibit his second solo exhibition 'Blasphemy' in the spirited art avenues of Shoreditch, in the Brick Lane Gallery. This exhibition was a satirical look at religion. The exhibition consisted of a blend of biblical scenes inhabited by the Looney Toons, a look at Jesus as a fashion model and a celebrity appearing on evening chat shows, a triptych of Gods and prophets fighting each other in Tekken-styled bouts and a homage to the cartoons of Charlie Hebdo. Blasphemy's paintings illustrated the world of the joke punchline, not looking to offend anyone's beliefs but perhaps objectively look at them and giggle.
Lucky Azad's third exhibition 'Small World- Big Circus' is scheduled to exhibit in the summer of 2022, in the buzzing BSMT space in Dalston Junction. The exhibit will consist of 20 large prints, each depicting a satirical illustration of both personal and current affairs of the world. The exhibit will tackle a range of issues from the state of London, immigration to music and the daily grind of a working life.
Lucky Azad, as well as being an artist, is an emerging screenwriter and childrens author. While creating his first series of paintings for 'Laughing Lucifer', he found his love for poetry. At the same time he created his first pamphlet of poetry self-published in India titled 'A Fickle Mind'. His first poetry pamphlet dealt with love, self-loathing and a struggle for identity. Soon after, Lucky wrote a further two short collections of poetry entitled 'Molten Words' and 'Conversation Poems'.
In 2014, Lucky Azad graduated with an MA in Writing for the Stage and Broadcast Media from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. After completing his MA, he went on to write a further seven short films and has to date, written 10 feature films all in different stages of development.
In January 2019, Lucky partnered with a talented director and producer, with whom he has formed a film production house called 'Spirits on the Scaffolds'. It has created 3 short films which are now screening in various film festivals across the UK and India. In 2019, Lucky self-published his debut childrens chapter book 'The Silver Hob-Nob in the Sky' and his debut childrens picture book 'The Bat with a Black and Yellow Hat'.
Writing and painting is Lucky Azad's vocation, in the Biblical sense of the word, he can't live without it. Well he could, but he'd be looking out of the window and concluding the concrete to be soft.
